Training

Clear View Training offers UML, OOAD, Patterns, Ruby and MDA courses. Dr. Jim Arlow can come to your site to deliver the course, or, if you have your own trainers, all of our course materials are available for licensing. Our courses are currently being run successfully throughout Europe.

NEWS: Our UML course is available free to academic institutions provided you use our book "UML and the Unified Process" as a course book. It's already in use in many Universities world-wide, and is fast becoming the de-facto standard for OOAD training. Contact us for details.

Licensing training materials

It can be very cost effective to license training materials. As you know, course production and maintenance is an expensive, time-consuming business. Licensing a very cost-effective option compared to doing the development yourself - and it's always quicker!
Here are some of the advantages to licensing your courses from us:

• Our clients receive, and can therefore deliver, a consistent, high-quality product branded to their own specifications. There is no maintenance cost. We keep the courses up to date for you.
• The quality and accuracy of our course material is extremely high because, over many years, we have become experts in education and course development.
• We specialize in course production and not delivery (although we will deliver on demand), so our licensing terms and conditions can be very good compared with other training companies.
• Lead-in time is very short! Our clients can take one of our courses off the shelf and start delivering it very quickly.
• We are always responsive to special client needs. We can customize a course for you, sometimes at no cost, depending on the volume of business.

How commercial licensing works

Courses may be licensed from Clear View Training Limited for a fee of 15% of the revenue of each delivery of the course. For example:

• You license our 4 day UML course
• You deliver that to 10 delegates
• You charge $2000 per delegate
• Your revenue for this delivery of the course is $20,000.
• You therefore pay Clear View Training 15% of this, which is $3000.
  

If you are giving the course internally within a business, the licensing fee is $100 per delegate per day.

What you get

You get a non-exclusive license to deliver the course as often as you wish subject to our terms and conditions for commercial licensing set out below. Clear View Training Limited supplies you with the following:

• The course as a PowerPoint presentation

• Student handouts as a PDF file
• Exercises (where appropriate) as a PDF file
• Solutions to the exercises (where appropriate) as a PDF file
• Trainer guide (course timings etc.) as a PDF file
• Updates to the course materials (usually between one and two updates a year)
  

You can optionally have:

• A 1 day "train the trainer" course from Dr. Jim Arlow. Clear View Training will charge expenses.
  
• Materials branded with your company's logo. There may be a small charge for this depending on the amount of work.
  
• Materials modified to meet your specific requirements. We charge for such modifications and can provide an estimate for this work on request.
• The course author, Dr. Jim Arlow to come to your company to deliver the course in person, this can often be arranged. Please contact us for further details.
  

Terms and conditions for commercial licensing

In order to protect our business and intellectual property rights, we have to place some reasonable conditions on the commercial license agreement for our course materials.
All materials supplied to you by Clear View Training are supplied on an "as is" basis with no warranty either express or implied.
Copyright on all materials supplied to you is owned by Clear View Training. You have the right to make one printed copy of all relevant material per course delegate and per trainer. Sorry - we don't allow electronic copies to be distributed except with our prior permission.
You are not allowed to sell the materials. They can only be given to delegates when you actually run one of our courses. The materials are not for resale or for republication under any circumstances.
Clear View Training expects licensees to charge a reasonable rate for trainings held using our materials. We reserve the right to withdraw the license agreement if we believe that this is not the case. For example, you can't license our materials and then deliver trainings at $10 per head! Your rates must be comparable to those of the market leading commercial training companies unless otherwise agreed in advance with us.
